How to… insert YouTube© videos in your publications

If you want to improve your documents, you will love the new YouTube© video embedding feature.

There are many reasons you might find yourself needing to illustrate a document with a YouTube© video: you might want to emphasize a great conference and pickup the best of it or just complete your last photos album with the short footage you took on the swimming-pool. In this tutorial, we will guide you through every steps. You’ll see. It’s real easy!

First, you need to publish your document on Calaméo.

Once your publication is up and running, go to “Your publications” page: you’ll get a complete list of all your publications.

Quickly identify the publication you’d like to insert a YouTube© video in and click on “Links” :

This will open the publication within Calaméo’s “Links Editor”.

On the upper right corner of the editor, you’ll see many different icons : the first icon is about adding rich-media content in your publication.

You can add YouTube© video but also link to another website, link to another page of your document, and play MP3, FLV, SWF animations right within the publication !

Click on the “Add a YouTube video to the publication” menu. A new shape tagged with the “YouTube” logo will appear on the publication. This shape is the zone in which the video will be played so you’ll may want to resize and drag it to fit your needs. Click on it to open the properties panel.

What you just need to do now is to past the URL of the YouTube© video you want into the proper field and press the “Modify” button.

You can add as much links, MP3s, YouTube© videos, FLV videos and SWF animations as you want within your publications but do remember to save your work by pressing the “save changes” button into the upper right corner:

Finally, once saved, the YouTube© video will be played thus illustrating in an astonishing way your document.

To summarize the whole process:

  1. Click the “Your publications” menu
  2. Click the “Links” menu that will open your publication into the links editor
  3. Select ” Add a YouTube video to the publication”
  4. Paste your YouTube© video URL
  5. Save your work: that is!
