In the digital age, online content creation is a necessity for any business or individual looking to reach a wider audience. However, with so much content online, it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd. In this article, we’ll discuss 5 tips for creating unforgettable online publications.
Use compelling images
Images are an important part of any online publication. Readers are more likely to read an article if it’s accompanied by eye-catching images. Images can also help convey information more effectively. Be sure to use high-quality images that match the subject of your publication.
Tell a story
Stories are a powerful way of capturing readers’ attention. When creating an online publication, try to tell a story that’s relevant to your target audience. Use anecdotes, examples and testimonials to bring your story to life.
Be original
With so much content online, it’s important to stand out by being original. Avoid using ready-made phrases or clichés, and try to find a unique angle for your publication. Research your topic thoroughly to find new and interesting information to share.
Use the right tone
The tone you use in your publication is important for capturing your audience’s attention. Try to find a tone of voice that suits your subject and your target audience. Use simple, clear language to make your message easy to understand.
Use a clear, easy-to-read layout
The layout of your publication is also important for understanding your message. Use a clear layout that makes your publication easy to read. Use headings and sub-headings to organize your content, and use short paragraphs to make it easier to read.
Conclusion
Creating outstanding online publications may seem difficult, but by using these 5 tips, you can create publications that stand out in any channel (whether on Calaméo or on social networks). Use captivating images, tell a story, be original, use an appropriate tone and a clear layout to capture your audience’s attention and communicate your message effectively.
There are almost limitless possibilities in the realm of digital publishing. Whether you are using it for professional or personal purposes, there is something for everyone. But how can you know for sure if digital publishing is right for you and your goals? Let us help you with our questionnaire and solutions below!
Access anywhere
One of the major features of digital publishing is that you can access your publications from anywhere. If you are a frequent traveler, for example, or you have professional meetings outside of the office and need to access a presentation, digital publishing is a great solution for you.
Everything in one place
Having all your documents in one place is a huge asset. You can easily access your materials without having to collect them from several different sites and services. Maybe you want potential clients to be able to view your entire portfolio at once. Or perhaps you’re a teacher and you’d like to post readings and assignments for your students all in one spot. You can even make a virtual library! If this sounds like something you need, then the verdict is in: digital publishing is right for you!
Interactive content
Digital publications don’t have to be boring and static. In fact, they shouldn’t be! You can make yours interactive and unique with music, sound effects, videos, GIFs, links, images, and more. Printed materials simply don’t provide the interactivity that digital publications do. If this appeals to you, then you should make the switch to digital publishing.
Marketing/sales strategies
Do you have something to promote or sell? While traditional marketing materials can be effective, digital marketing can reach a wider audience more quickly. Adding shopping links, strong clickable CTAs, and sharing your publication (more on that below), will enhance your sales and/or marketing strategies.
Want to spread your digital publication far and wide? You can share it in just a few clicks! Embedding your publication on a website or sharing via social media is incredibly easy. If you want to ensure that your content reaches a wide audience, it’s time to embrace digital publishing.
Privacy
Don’t want everyone to be able to see your publications? No problem! You can choose who has access to your publications by making them private. Digital publishing is an excellent solution for those who want to limit or control how many people can view their publication.
Tracking
Oftentimes it’s hard to know whether your marketing campaign has been successful, or how many people have read your magazine article. Digital publishing offers several solutions for tracking your metrics. Calaméo has a built-in statistics feature, and PLATINUM members can link their Google Analytics account with Calaméo. So you will never be in the dark about metrics and data with digital publishing.
Publish your novel, share your newsletter, upload your thesis, start your own magazine. These (and more!) are all possible with digital publishing. The world is your oyster when it comes to using digital publishing for personal projects, especially with Calaméo.
Your turn!
As you can see, there are infinite reasons to use digital publishing for your sales and marketing strategies, your personal projects, and more. Plus, it’s remarkably easy! So no matter the project, digital publishing can be a solution for everyone!
Since the beginning of 2020, much of the world has undergone rapid changes in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. With more than 30% of global population under some form of lockdown in April, everything from doing business to keeping busy has been turned upside-down and everyone is being forced to innovate.
That’s why we decided to update our list of digital publishing strategy trends for 2020. Although the strategies we discussed back in 2019 are still important, we wanted to highlight trends that have emerged this spring. Read on to learn how businesses are adapting digital publishing to meet new needs during the coronavirus pandemic.
DIGITIZATION
A main concern for companies across all industries has been getting their business up and running online. Of course, having an internet presence and even offering online sales are already key for modern organizations. However, when stores are closed and potential customers are quarantined at home, digital platforms are vital for staying in touch. One recent survey showed more than 85% of marketers anticipate bigger demand for online services, while 70% expect increased e-commerce.
In addition to serving customers online, businesses are also figuring out how to enable remote work for their teams. For many, the shift from office life to working from home was sudden. Overnight, thousands of companies have had to adjust priorities and adopt new ways to collaborate. In the US alone, the number of people working from home jumped from 4% of the workforce to 34% during the first week of April 2020.
This unprecedented move to the web means companies are racing to digitize documents of all types. From internal memos to product catalogs, their materials need to be available for customers and employees online. And due to production and distribution difficulties, the trend is even stronger for businesses with print publications. In challenging conditions, digitization is helping to provide critical publishing solutions.
SOLIDARITY
Another publishing trend to come out of the pandemic is more widely shared content. Digital publishers quickly recognized the need for people at home to stay informed, entertained and learning. Overwhelmingly, they have responded by making content that is usually paid available for free online.
Here at Calaméo we have seen inspiring examples of publishers showing solidarity with their readers. We rounded up some of the educational resources that our publishers shared to help quarantined parents and children on the blog in French. We’ve also noticed special journals, activities and more being shared on our platform for everyone to enjoy.

Indeed, this is a trend that’s become clear among publishers all over the internet. Newspapers and magazines like the New York Times and Vanity Fair are letting readers without a subscription access their coverage of the coronavirus. As a result, views were 30% higher on average in March 2020 than in 2019. Some sites have even reported doubling their traffic due to free content initiatives, demonstrating a strong connection with audiences online.
E-BOOKS
The last publishing trend we’ll highlight today is a bit unexpected: e-books. After a decade of highs and lows, by 2019 e-books made up about 20% of all book sales. But as more and more businesses turn to online tools to digitize and share content, e-books have gained new popularity amid the pandemic.
Offering readers the opportunity to download digital copies of their material is an important option for publishers in lockdown. Booksellers are reporting increased demand, while libraries have experienced a surge of e-book borrowing. For example, digital library book checkouts climbed by 30% during the first weeks of quarantine in the United States. And in France, e-book sales rose up to 200%.
Businesses in every industry are working hard to adapt to the extraordinary circumstances created by the coronavirus. However, the immediate future remains uncertain. Some experts predict, for instance, that 25-30% of people may still be working from home in 2021. Others wonder whether advertising will continue to support online content as usual.
We don’t know yet how these digital publishing trends will evolve over the coming months. But one thing seems clear: the best strategies in 2020 will focus on being useful in a changing world.
